I've been called by many friends and colleagues "a true renaissance man". I think I just happen to have a lot of diverse interests and experiences. In the business world, my 14 year tenure at Seattle-based fashion retailer Nordstrom included positions in sales, corporate human resources, information technology, and sustainable business & development. While still in college, I served as an international expert on Russian venture capital funds. More recently, I worked in UW Medical Centers Human Resources from 2004 through 2007 and I'm now working towards a Master of Arts in Policy Studies at University of Washington - Bothell focusing on integrated conservation and development. My science background begins with science degrees in psychology and conservation biology. I've taken part in research projects throughout the world including field work on song sparrows and terrestrial amphibians in Washington, investigating zoos of the former Soviet Union, studying snow leopard ecology in Ladakh (India), and evaluating the population status of Sandhill cranes in Cuba. My travels also give me the opportunity to practice my language skills in Spanish, French, German, Russian, Chinese, and most recently Whulshootseed. I've founded several nonprofits including the Sustainable Style Foundation, The Smart Set, and two interdepartmental initiatives at the UW focused on sustainability in healthcare: SAM and MESH. To round things off, I was a competitive rower in and after college and now train in and coach triathlon and modern pentathlon. I'm a prolific blogger and even write poetry, garden, and paint from time to time.
